The dawn breaks high behind the towering and serrated wall of the Cordillera, a clear-cut vision of dark peaks rearing their steep slopes on a lofty pedestal of forest rising from the very edge of the shore. Amongst them the white head of Higuerota rises majestically upon the blue. Bare clusters of enormous rocks sprinkle with tiny black dots the smooth dome of snow.

Hi! I have been a missionary since 1969. I started out with my husband, Don, in Indonesia, working with Dayaks in Kalimantan (Borneo). My husband traveled by motorcycle and on foot to reach several churches in our area, teaching many but especially strengthening the church leaders. My main work was in Bible translation. We left Kalimantan in 1990 and returned briefly to the States. In 1992 we were redeployed to the Philippines to work with CBAP, the Conservative Baptist Association of the Philippines. After a year of language study, we moved to the northern part of Luzon Island, settling in Santiago City and working in several cities of that region. In 1995, we returned for Christmas in the States, intending to go back to the Philippines after nine months. However, due primarily to my husband's chronic asthma, it was decided that we would stay in the States. We soon were invited to join a ministry in Portland, OR that was designed to befriend international students. Don retired in 2000, when he was too ill to continue working. After 20 years of retirement, volunteering as he was able, he passed away in 2020 of COVID. I have continued to the present, carrying out the calling God gave me when I was merely seven years old. I don't walk the campuses as in previous years. I don't have the physical strength to be on the move as before. However, the calling remains. Only the job description changes with time, to be appropriate with the abilities has given me.. My travel is limited, but my computer takes me around the world. I now focus on writing and editing, especially materials that can be used for international student ministry by colleagues in similar ministires. To better focus on these ministries I resigned from Missions Door at the end of 2024 and joined Servants of Christ International All my experiences of the past, whether at home or overseas, have led to the present tasks that God has put before me. To God be the glory! View all posts by Carmen Bryant
